The design and evaluation of a pre-procedure checklist specific to the cardiac catheterisation laboratory

BackgroundWith the increasing complexity of procedures being performed in cardiac catheterisation laboratory, multidisciplinary team has challenge providing safe care to patients who present with a multitude healthcare needs. Although use surgical safety checklist become standard practice operating theatres worldwide, pre-procedure not been routinely adopted into interventional cardiology.ObjectiveThe aim this study was design and evaluate specific laboratory.MethodA descriptive, exploratory used develop specifically designed for laboratory private hospital Melbourne, Australia. The developed by exploring team's opinion regarding organisation's previous through pre-implementation survey focus groups. Following an expert review, implementation proposed checklist, post-implementation completed.ResultsThirty-five (70%) professionals completed survey, 31 (62%) completing survey. Ninety-one per cent participants agreed that important clinical information required documented on checklist. A from results six groups (N = 25) implemented laboratory.
